Objectives for 2023

Happy holidays! I can’t believe my last blog post is from February. 🀯 Hopefully this marks the resurgence of my regular blogging.

2022 was a rollercoaster of a year, and also the best year of my life so far. I hope 2023 can provide as much personal and professional growth.

That said, here are my specific objectives for 2023.

Get married

For the first time I have a shared objective. πŸ™‚

We’re ending 2022 engaged, and we want to end 2023 married. It’ll be the highlight of the year!

Write less code

In my current role it’s much more valuable for me to provide technical leadership and guidance than writing a lot of code. Writing less code myself gives me more opportunities to help the rest of the team develop their technical skills and grow.

Take more notes

With so many things going on in my life, both professionally and personally, I find myself at the limits of my memory. Whether it’s jumping between technical discussions with the team about completely different things, remembering flight details on a phone call with family, or having to remember details about a candidate I interviewed months ago, there’s only so much I can recall without having to look things up.

Good notetaking is a superpower. I want to get better at it next year.

Make more time for hobbies

I feel like I didn’t have much time for hobbies in 2022. Specifically

These were a large part of my identity in previous years and I want to work on making time for them again.

You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.

How did I do on my 2022 objectives?

  • ❌ Get really healthy – I’ll unofficially carry this over to 2023. I need to get into shape for my wedding anyway. πŸ˜‚
  • βœ… Be more uncomfortable
  • βœ… Have bigger side projects
  • βœ… More fun food and travel experiences
